Space Debris
Space Junk 3D
Many plans of how to clean up our junk in space.
I think it is a really smart idea and I suspect it will succeed. – Theodore K.
The WAR on SPACE JUNK
There i s this big craft which uses little droids to put net onto big pieces of junk, so when it circles the Earth, it collects everything that is passes and after a week goes back into the craft.
This ia a very good idea of using droids. – Alexander
Fishing for Space Junk
The European Space Agency gone ‘fishing’ for space junk. So the scientists are free falling nets through the air shooting nets at miniature model satellite.
Magnetic Net to catch space junk
Japan sent a magnetic net to collect and trap the trash. It was launched 2 years ago.
I like it, but what about small pieces of debris? – Aaron I.
I found that there is one advantage of nets which is they can be scaled to capture larger or smaller objects. Also, they can handle all sorts of target shapes, rotation rates, and speeds. The net that had the harpoon, each corner was weighted to help entangle target. I learned that lightweight nets were more effective than thick woven versions. I think that is happening because the thicker nets might not move as easily as the lightweight ones.
I like the idea of the harpooning net with the four corners wrapping around the object because it wouldn’t let go of the object and you had to use a knife to cut the net open. That makes sure that the object is captured and will not be released easily. I don’t like that the nets holes are big because they can’t capture really small objects in space. – David Marc B.
How can we clean up that space junk? by Fraser Cain”
It says we’re litterbugs and we don’t think about littering in space one bit, and maybe we can take one piece of junk out once we launch another or we can a robot that has a laser to shoot it. We might forget to take another thing out and we’ll litter even more. A laser might help.
Sling-sat space junk system
The sling-sat is a slingshot. It licks up the junk and throws it into the atmosphere and it burns up. It moves faster when it adjusts it’s arm length. It might be better if there is a tiny button that the junk pushes and it gets fuel.
- Space ships ad satellites
- Near Earth and far away junk
- Many countries contribute to problem
We know who they are – Many Nations – USA
We know what it is – Satellites & Rocket parts
We Know how far it is – near Earth and Geo synchronous – Walt P.
Space Junk Clean Up: 7 Wild Ways to Destroy Orbital Debris
Snagging and moving space junk. Knock junk down with a net.
It cleans up space junk faster. -Brandon P.
The Junkyard bot by C.J. Richards
In the book C.J. Richards talks about how a net can be used in space to collect certain amount of garbage before entering the Earth’s atmosphere and then it will burn up.
But what about the objects that won’t fully burn up on re-entry? – Alexander K.
Want to Get Rid of Space Junk? Catch It in a Giant Net
A small fleet of net flinging spacecraft cleaning big pieces of space junk out of how Earth orbit within 12 years. Each spacecraft known as the ElectroDynamic Debris Eliminator (EDDE) would capture orbital debris in a net, then drag the junk down out of harm’s way. The cleanup of low-Earth Orbit (LEO) could start happening soon.
What protection does the spacecraft have for itself? – Nathan
We should create a machine with a garbage at the bottom. It could fly around with the lid open to collect space-trash.
I think the net that the Japanese Space Agency wants to use with mesh aluminum and steel wires could break. This makes more junk in space. I suggest wrapping it with rope or some kind of thing, like tape or something to keep it together if any of the aluminum or steel breaks.
The European Space Agency is fishing for space junk. They are testing the ability of nets by shooting nets at model satelites and in the video, you can see that the net gets tangled up a lot. They say that they have to cut the mesh net off the satelite. How do they bring the satelite back once they catch it. Because they are shooting the nets, I think they are attached to a line. what if that line breaks? Then they would make enough space to put it in the rocket ship they are in to bring it back without burning it. What if the net gets tangled on some other piece of junk out there that is really hard to navigate and it got tangled up on something else and then the line breaks. It could be a big mess.
