Hugo Cabret review

Review of The Invention of Hugo Cabret.

Recently, I read a book called “The Invention of Hugo Cabret” by Brian Selznick. It took me three days to finish the book because I read it when I wake up in the morning and also in school. The book is 534 pages long.

The main characters in this book are: Hugo Cabret, Isabelle, George Melies, and the mechanical man. Hugo is an orphan boy who lives in a clock tower. Isabelle is a little girl that helps Hugo get his notebook back when his book is taken by George Melies. George Melies is a toy seller who took away Hugo’s notebook after Hugo stole a mechanical mouse. The mechanical man is a robot that Hugo’s dad created and Hugo is trying to fix.

Hugo learned mechanics from his father when they were trying to fix a robot. It was very difficult because it had many parts. Hugo’s father died from a fire and his uncle took him home. His uncle was Hugo’s last relative. One day his uncle didn’t return home and was found dead in a river.

When Hugo walked by where his father died he saw the mechanical man an took it home. It was all rusted and had many parts missing. Hugo wanted to fix the mechanical man. Hugo worked hard to repair the mechanical man. Once it was fixed Hugo saw a keyhole in the shape of a heart.
One day when Hugo was walking he helped a girl that fell down. When he helped her up he noticed a heart-shaped key and knew it was from his mechanical man. The next day he stole the key from the girl, it was Isabelle.

When Hugo got home he tested the key and it fit perfectly. As Hugo turned the key in the mechanical man, the door slammed open and Isabelle said to Hugo “you stole my key.” Then she saw the mechanical man when the gears moved and it started to make a picture of a rocket that hits the moon’s eye.

Isabelle ran home and told her God parents. The next day Hugo met with Isabelle and she said that her parents wanted to see the mechanical man. Hugo went home and ran to Isabelle with the mechanical man. Isabelle’s god parents allowed Hugo to stay with them at their house.

I loved reading the book, you will enjoy it too.
